Tues 10th Oct: International rescue, and still foster homes needed

An international kind of rescue

I'm stuck at home nursing a cold, with the usual runny nose and cough, so I don't want to spread my germs around. As it happened it was lucky that I hadn't gone over to Hong Kong because I received a message from an ex-HKDR adopter (of several dogs) who's now involved in dog rescue in Nevada, USA, asking if I could help trace the owner of a dog found in Northern California who had a Hong Kong microchip.  I checked with AFCD to start with, and although I was told the dog was registered to a non-local owner, that's as much information as I could get.  You can see the rest of the story on our Hong Kong Dog Rescue Facebook page as we asked for help in identifying the dog, and subsequently the owner, because we knew one of the vet clinics must have the details matching the microchip number. During the day I was relaying the information bit by bit to the contact in the USA, and finally this morning (Wednesday) the owner had made contact herself after SPCA (Hong Kong) turned out to be the vet clinic that had the information.  They had then contacted the owner to ask her to check our Facebook post, so I hope the next part of the story will be the happy reunion of the dog with her family.  It's quite an amazing story, and pure luck that the ex-HKDR adopter had been contacted by the dog's finder, and that we were able to eventually make all the right connections.

I have just posted a video of two newborns that are in need of help, meaning a foster home who doesn't mind the bottle feeding required for such young baby pups.  I had at first assumed they were Rain Babies, meaning those born to a stray mother and had been washed out of the nest in the heavy rain, but I have since been told that the mother dog lives in a warehouse and the owner refuses to desex her.  So whenever pups are born, which would be every six months, he just throws them out to die.  Two dead pups were found with these two that are still alive, and they are Rain Babies in that they were found in the hills where they had been dumped.   If you can foster these two survivors, please contact Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com if you are already a registered foster, or complete the foster form at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/volunteer/fostering/.  Please bear in mind that pups of this age need regular feeding, so that means during the night to start with too. (It seems we have already had an offer of a foster home but we need to check that it's suitable).

We're also still in need of foster homes for the other puppies in the litter of nine, three of which are still with the rescuer and two of which went to a foster home but have to leave.  Again, please complete the foster form or email Cindy if you are already registered.  These are very happy and friendly puppies.
