With the long weekend continuing today it was quite quiet again, however we did receive the happy news that Samoyed Brady's trial adoption was confirmed as permanent, while little poodle Bunty was picked up from her foster home to move in with her new family.
Jodie was adopted today |
Jodie was the lucky dog at Kennedy Town today, and I know that there's going to be a double adoption on Tuesday because that's already been arranged.
It might seem as though we must be practically empty at Kennedy Town with so many adoptions recently, but that's nowhere near the case unfortunately. We still have many really lovely small and medium dogs waiting, including the most recent five who are due to go to Acorn on Wednesday for their routine health checks.
Skippy the cavapoo is 6 years old |
I also want to mention the Cavapoo Skippy, who had actually been offered a lovely new home, but as so often happens things didn't work out. It was nothing to do with Skippy himself, in fact the potential adopter didn't even get to meet him, and thanks to the long holiday everything has been very quiet. So if you're interested in offering a home to Skippy, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/. (A cavapoo is the name given to a King Charles Cavalier and a poodle cross).
Sandro and Bruno |
We also have puppies in foster, and you can see details and photos on Instagram @why_i_foster. I also want to mention that there are still seven puppies from the same litter as Bruno and Sandro who are waiting for foster homes too, so if you can help please fill in the foster form at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/volunteer/fostering. We provide everything you need during the foster period, including food, bed, bowls and puppy fences.

Jiro |
The shiba inu older puppies are at Kennedy Town and in need of homes too, however we don't recommend this breed for families with children. Jiro and Riku are eleven months old, and we also have Kira who is one year old.
Poodles are still the most popular of all breeds, but they are also often not suitable to live with children. I think it's the fact that they're a highly intelligent breed and subsequently demanding in terms of mental stimulation and companionship, and many don't get either as puppies. The result is adult poodles that are emotionally damaged and untrusting of strangers, and being small in size their automatic defence is to bite. All of our "Red" dogs are poodles for this reason, and while it's quite possible for them to settle well in an adults-only home, they can't tolerate the fast movements and high-pitched screams of children. Sadly it looks as though some of our current poodles will need fall under the "Red" category too, and it's really very sad. Such poodles aren't born that way, they're created from isolation and lack of understanding by their owners as puppies. I should add that not all poodles are "Red", as those who have had a happy and appropriate puppyhood can be very lovely and sweet as adults.

Smartie |
With little Sunshine having been adopted we still have her sister Smartie available, and she's a small girl who will grow to be a small-medium sized adult. Smartie is staying in a foster home so we will arrange a meeting after receiving suitable adoption questionnaires.
On a completely different note we have a couple of events coming up which aren't directly HKDR organised, but with HKDR as the beneficiary.
One of these is a Black Tie Dinner for the Knights of Alba Hong Kong on 30 November 2023 (Thursday) at The Grand Ballroom, Grand Hyatt, 1 Harbour Road, Wanchai.
Please let us know if you would like to participate in this amazing Italian wine and food experience, knowing that you will be supporting HKDR at the same time.
Price: Knights and Spouse $2,680; Friends $2,980
*For group signup of 10 on one table: $2,680 for all
Price also includes all tasting and dinner wines
RSVP: hkmaster@cavalierideltartufo.it
The highlight of the evening will be the Knights Of Alba Charity Raffle with amazing prizes. As a
tribute to the tireless working truffle hunting dogs in Alba, all profits from this year's Charity Raffle
will go to the Hong Kong Dog Rescue (HKDR). HKDR is a no-kill rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming
center for dogs and puppies in the city.
