The 6 Typhoon Babies safe and dry |
I called this post The Longest Day because that's what it was, particularly for our amazing Foster Coordinator Cindy. Not only did she handle all of the offers of typhoon foster homes from early until late, but just as we thought that was it for the day I received a message about a litter of newborns that had been found in a rubbish bin, and everything started up again. I posted a call for foster homes on Facebook, and was amazed at the quick response, including one offer to take all six of the puppies. It was after 9pm when I heard that the pups had been picked up and were on their way home, and I could almost hear the sighs of relief as everyone involved in trying to coordinate the rescue effort could finally say goodnight.

The scene outside the Tai Po Homing Centre today |
A total of seventy dogs were collected from our Tai Po Homing Centre throughout the day, with some potential fosters turning up and leaving without a dog because those that were still at the Centre were too big, or not compatible with the temporary home offered. Apologies for a wasted journey but thank you too for taking the time. You can check out some of the updates on dogs that did find refuge on our Facebook page Hong Kong Dog Rescue (HKDR) and all of them look very comfortable, even in their unfamiliar surroundings. Remember all of these dogs are available for permanent adoption, and showing how well they fit in will hopefully prompt some families to offer them a forever home.

I was lucky that the wind direction of the typhoon meant my house was quite sheltered during the night, but right now it's a different matter and I can't see that I'll be heading out for my usual morning walk with the dogs.
As far as returning all of those who were taken as Typhoon Fosters, if they can stay until the worst of the rain has passed that would be ideal, and if you want to keep them for a few days longer that's also fine. Again thank you so much to everyone for an incredible response and so much help offered.
