Weds 8th Sept: Non-stop action

Going home together!

I'm going to start with adoption news, this time a double.  Recently-arrived Poppy and Pudsey will be going home together, and not only is that very welcome news anyway, it's especially helpful because we have so many new arrivals with more coming on Thursday.

One of the new five

Today's five new puppies are tiny tots, gorgeous little youngsters and all different from each other, but not totally healthy so we'll be hanging on to them for the time being.  Hopefully all they need is de-worming and proper nutrition to see them flourish, so keep them in mind if you're looking for a small-sized mixed breed.   We will consider letting them go to potential homes now, but only in pairs and on the understanding that they aren't fully healthy (we did have one tested for distemper and the result was negative).

Another tiny puppy

Just as we were settling the new babies into their upstairs quarantine room an email came from AFCD about a mother and her four month-old puppies, as well as others adult dogs that needed help, plus one older puppy.  They will be picked up on Thrusday morning, which is why I immediately asked on Facebook for foster homes for the puppies, who sadly will have to say goodbye to their mother.  At four weeks of age puppies can eat by themselves so as long as they have each other they will be fine.  For the mother it's the beginning of a new life and without further litters of unwanted pups, as all of our dogs are desexed of course.

Maltese arriving on Thursday

Also coming to us on Thursday is a young Maltese female, a breed that's suitable for people who are allergic to normal dog hair.  Again I know there will be a lot of applications to adopt this girl and there's only one of her, so we'll let her go to the best home available.

Phaedra

I usually stay on Lamma on Wednesdays as it's driver Ming's day off, but I wanted to see the new puppies and also say hello to Phaedra the cocker spaniel after her move to the Homing Centre from ALCVC.  Now her paw has healed completely and there's barely even a scar, we needed to have her at the Centre to be able to assess her behaviour prior to finding her a new home.  Obviously the trauma of what happened to her, meaning her abandonment and injury, had made her quite scared and nervous, so she was put with the "Shy Squad" upstairs, next to the office where there are always people to oversee the dogs and their interactions.   At first she barked at me, but after I sat down on a chair she immediately calmed and even came over to check me out.  Donny the shiba inu puppy seems to be intrigued by this noisy new dog, but his clowning around didn't bother her and nor did any of the other dogs.  I think Phaedra's going to be fine in the right home, and Donny too has improved tremndously and already has a potential home to go to.   It's wonderful to see dogs that have been both physically and emotionally damaged let go of their protective behaviour and start to enjoy life.

Goji

To be honest I'd almost forgotten about another shiba inu who came to us a while ago, and I had to ask about him and his behaviour.  This is Goji, and although he's not too keen on other dogs he loves human attention (and food apparently), so it's really time he found himself a home of his own.  As always we don't home shibas to families with children, or to first-time owners.

For all adoption enquiries please start by completing the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/ and remember to check your Spam inbox if you're waiting for a reply.
