Weds 15th Sept: Who knows what story a dog's past holds

Petey also bears some physical scars from before

Puppy Petey was picked up from Whiskers N Paws today leaving us with the question of which puppies should replace him and recently-adopted Lucy as in-store residents.  Iris suggested two of the black-with-white sisters, but that would have left one of them behind - and which one?  So we asked if all three could be sent, and I'm happy to report that the answer was yes, so until they're adopted Lyra, Lizzie and Lula can stay together and play all day.

Such a sweet little Milky

The recently-surrendered Maltese Milky was adopted today, and although we don't know her story she's a very sweet little dog.  Luckily for her she's still young and whatever her past is hasn't affected her, unlike some of the dogs we take in, like cocker spaniel Phaedra for example.  Yes, I had previously written that she'd been adopted, but unfortunately she had to be returned today.  There were two particular reasons, one being that she was bullying the other dog in the home, and the second that she doesn't appear to like certain people, which sadly included the building security guard.  I know the couple who adopted her are heartbroken at having to give her back, but at least there's this:  "In the short time with us , she had already started to calm with people outside  and relax into our household .  We honestly believe that if we had a bigger home, more relaxed  building managenent  and not an existing dog , she would have been a perfect friend."

Cocker spaniels love to run and swim

We know that some dogs are damaged by whatever has happened to them previously, and with Phaedra at least part of that is known, meaning the abandonment and the awful paw injury. However what led to that happening is anyone's guess.  Thankfully Phaedra is also a young dog, so in the right home and with experienced adopters I think she'll be fine.  What we're looking for is a home with no other dogs, no children, and either a single person or couple who understand that rehabilitation takes time and who are willing to work with our trainer Cactus to achieve the desired result.  If that's you please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/

We have yet more puppies coming to us from AFCD (Shatin this time), and they should be arriving on Friday.

  1. Sorry to read about Phaedra being returned. I had quite a challenge when I adopted my Cocker, Candy [formerly Shanti which means peace!].She used to jump at all men and tried to "nip" them from behind even people walking in my building. She also bullied my older Cocker as well, and guarded her food from me, not the maid! Whenever I walked past anyone in the street, I would immediately put her behind me. Of course, that was long ago now. She is almost 16 and a very mellow dog now. Dogs can always change. They are amazing. The right person/family will come along. Good luck, Phaedra. XXX
