Fri 3rd Sept: Another victim surrendered

DouDou is now Dido

She was DouDou but she'll be given a new name, and I really hope she can also find a new family to go with it.   Her now ex-owner said they couldn't afford the flight costs, so at six year of age and apparently being good with children, another dog is left behind.  Will you offer her a home?  It's really so sad seeing these innocent animals losing everything they have ever known and loved, and trusted.  You can meet now-Dido at our Tai Po Homing Centre but please start by completing the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/
Corgi cross Ellie was adopted today

It's always so much easier for the small dogs, and another one of the recent nine arrivals went home today.  Ellie is a corgi cross, almost certainly related some of the others in the group.

Candy (top right) and her puppies

Little Candy, mother of the puppies that arrived with her and all now adopted, will be leaving on Saturday, and I was very happy to see how well she's doing when I was at the Homing Centre today.  She was withdrawn and shy at first, but now she's a happy girl who's also quite bossy with the puppies.

Lyra

I love to spend some time with the puppies, until my shoelaces are in danger of being eaten, and to see how they're growing.  There's inevitably one that I imagine myself adopting (except I can't of course), and that's currently Lyra, a slim and petite girl, smaller than her two sisters.  Of course there's little Ruthie too, and Rufus, and so many others to choose from, and you can meet them all at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre any day from 10am to 6pm, or at Whiskers N Paws on Sundays 2pm to 4pm.  As a reminder of them all here's the album from last Sunday at Whiskers N Paws for you to browse through  Puppy Adoption Day 29th August 2021.

Do you know that the running costs for HKDR are over a million dollars every month?  That's a huge amount and it's why we don't employ extra staff to answer the phones or respond immediately to every enquiry or question (it's almost always me that replies initially).  This is really the basic cost of looking after over six hundred dogs, their food and veterinary care, cleaning, and the skeleton staff required to handle the running of the two Homing Centres and adoptions.  Many of our staff double up on their jobs, such as Eva, Yannie and Dorothy who work at both the Tai Po Homing Centre and the office on a rotation basis, and Ap Lei Chau staff member Eagle who is also our in-house graphic designer.  Many of our key workers are volunteers, including Cindy, our incredible Foster Coordinator, and the two Volunteer Coordinators, Anne and Sarra.  Volunteers at both Homing Centres are also invaluable to the day-to-day care of the dogs, walking, feeding, bathing and socialising.  We honestly couldn't do without them.   Over the past two years we haven't been able to hold any major fundraisers and have relied on the smaller events, our Life Saver Club sponsors, Coin Dragon 換幣龍Twopresents, and other regular donors of food and so on.  Balancing the need for financial diligence while giving the best possible care to all of our dogs, many of whom are old now, or who come to us needing urgent and expensive veterinary treatment, is an ongoing challenge as you can imagine.  If you can support in any way, no matter how small, please help by donating: https://hongkongdogrescue.com/donate/one-off-donations/

Thank you!
