Sun 19th Sept: What about the puppies?

It looks like Diesel was doing some shopping

There's so much to share I'm not sure where to start, but maybe the regular Sunday Whiskers N Paws Puppy Party is a good place, where Rodger So was our volunteer photographer recording the event  Puppy Adoption Day 19th Sep 2021. The only puppy adopted on site was one of the recent arrivals at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, and his name is Diesel.  He's a gorgeous and funny mix of all sorts, one of those with a long body and short legs, and he has a lovely nature to match his adorable looks.  It did occur to me that our larger sized but equally adorable puppies have been somewhat neglected over the past week, not in terms of the attention we give them, but with the arrival of so many new dogs the puppies have taken a back seat in the publicity department. I hope Rodger's beautiful photos will change that and help find homes for more of our young hopefuls.

Little Cricket is back

It seems that we might be taking in even more smaller-sized dogs at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre in the coming week, so it was a good thing that several left today, or were at least chosen for pick up on Monday.  There was also another small puppy returned to us after the resident dog wasn't happy about having Cricket there, and she came back just in time to join the Whiskers N Paws event.  She may very well be related to Diesel, as there are many similarities and they came from the same source I think.

Usually when we take new dogs in they see a vet for check-up and vaccination before being available for adoption, but in this situation of so many arriving just before the weekend it's worked the other way round, and even before we've had a chance to get the dogs to a vet they've been adopted. The adopters are then directed to the ALCVC vet up the road from our Homing Centre to have the regular check and rabies vaccination given.  Thanks to the staff at ALCVC for being so accommodating in fitting in these sudden appointments.

Scooby the pug

Today's lucky dogs and happy families were Scooby the pug, who was picked up after his adoption on Saturday, and Spud the Frenchie.  Stella the poodle cross and Scarlet, also a poodle cross, may  be related, and I had been wondering if all of the poodle crosses were from the same family as they're the same age (around a year) other than Stella, who's a bit older.
Tiny little Scarlet has a new big brother

Shiba inu puppy Donny also had his adoption formalised after his family-to-be have been coming to meet and walk him regularly, so he's off the available list even though his pick-up day is later this week.

Stella (r) also has an instant friend

It wouldn't be HKDR if I didn't write about yet another surrendered dog, and today it was a large German shepherd male.  I had specifically asked that he be brought to our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre at 4pm so Ming could drive him straight to Tai Po after the puppies came back from Whiskers N Paws, but it seemed his now ex-owner couldn't get rid of him fast enough and he turned up as soon as we opened in the morning.

Floyd is 7 year old

With no place to keep such a large dog at the small Homing Centre, we had to send him to ALCVC for the day, and in any case it turned out that the dog's license was due to expire so he needed a rabies shot along with everything else as no information had been provided.  The German shepherd is now Floyd and you can meet him at our Tai Po Homing Centre.

As always for all adoptions please start the process by completing the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/
