Weds 19th Sept: Returning to work

I want to talk about good news today, starting with the re-appearance of one of the missing Lamma dogs I was convinced had died during the typhoon.  I was working again on trying to clear some of the wreckage and retrieve the buried igloos when he just turned up, and I was both surprised and very relieved.

Gelato is going to Germany!
Other good news is that Tai Po dog Gelato has had his adoption and flight to Germany confirmed , so he can now be removed from the available list.
Babette has found her forever family

So can Babette, who was one of the dogs who went to a typhoon foster home and fitted in so well that they asked to adopt her.  Babette has been with us since she was a baby puppy so this made us all very happy.

While other foster dogs are being returned to the Homing Centre, we are asking for any time extensions that are possible due to the loss of two enclosures at Tai Po after a tree fell and destroyed fencing.  As each enclosure houses quite a few dogs the loss of two makes a big difference, and we have also got no cover on the roof which was another one of our dog-keeping spaces.  We have at least had the water supply reconnected, but yes, we still need volunteers to help with the clean up, and repairs if you have any skills in that way.

I'm going to be back at work (in the normal sense) on Thursday as there are things to be done like taking dogs to the vet, but the work on Lamma is going to take a long time to finish.  I was really only just getting used to the new landscape after last year's Typhoon Hato and all the devastation that came with that, and now everything that is done is going to have to take into account the fact that climate change means the sea front is no longer as safe as it was.

Saturday 13th October
The "Sarge'n'Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club" Gala Fundraiser is now only just over three weeks away, and volunteer organiser Nicole has been busy working away to make sure we have a fantastic evening planned.   Please don't leave it too late to buy tickets or tables as space is limited in the Aberdeen Marina Club Ballroom, and you won't want to miss out.  Even if you can't really remember The Beatles as a band I'm sure you know some of their music, the theme of this year's event, and we have a packed evening of fun ahead, and of course fundraising.   Please email nicole@hongkongdogrescue.com for ticket information and anything else event related.
