Fri 7th Sept: Looking forward to a busy weekend

Sweet mother Portia has a home to go to
The new dogs have been coming in at such a rate I can't recall who arrived on which day,  and after getting all the licenses sorted out today I hope there will be a lot of adoptions over the weekend to reduce the numbers.  Chocolate labrador mother Portia will be picked up first thing on Saturday so that's one less to think about, and I know she'll make the most wonderful family dog as she's so incredibly sweet.

We have huskies, malamutes, rottweilers, labradors and golden retrievers at Tai Po, many still puppies or young adults, and chow chows with the other smaller breeds at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre.
The new puppy boy looks just like this

It seemed almost unusual to be taking a puppy out of AFCD today, but it was like history repeating itself as the five month-old boy was yet another in the long line of "Figgy Family" dogs. The similarity is so striking that I can use the same photo over and over as it could be of any of the puppies, the first of which was the original Figgy, now a young adult and doing very well with her lovely family.  This new boy is timid like all of the "Figgys" but he'll settle quite quickly I'm sure.

I took puppy Rum to AFCD to have her licensed before she goes off to her new home on Sunday, and I was greeted with a thousand kisses as I got into the van where she was already waiting.  Rum is such a gorgeous girl, and like her sister Raisin and most of the other available puppies, she has been with us (or in foster homes) since she was a very young baby.  That means we can be sure that all of the puppies have had the best care and lots of love during that important formative period, and as so many visitors comment when they come to Whiskers N Paws on Sundays, all of them are well socialised and happy to be around people and young children.
Rum and all of her puppy friends are incredibly sweet natured
The Gala Fundraiser takes place on Sat 13th October

While the Homing Centre staff are busy sorting and settling all of the new dogs and taking care of the many others already with us, the work of running HKDR and everything that that involves continues as normal.  With the "Sarge'n'Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club" Gala Fundraiser now only one month away everything needs to be pulled together, and our volunteer organiser Nicole has been busy making sure that happens.  We've got a fantastic evening planned with all sorts of amazing prizes and fun happenings, so please be sure to book your seats or table by emailing nicole@hongkongdogrescue.com for information and reservations.

A few years ago we had a lovely pug couple called Rumble and Ellie.  They stayed in a foster home for quite a while before being adopted, and very sadly they are now back with us and once again looking for what must be their last ever home.  They are twelve years old, and having been a couple their whole lives they must stay together.  If anyone can give these sweet seniors a happy retirement for ever, please let us know.
This lovely pair of pugs are looking for a home again

Before I forget, we are in need of newspapers at bothe Tai Po and Ap Lei Chau, as well as Lamma, so please drop off what you can collect at either of the Homing Centres, thank you.
