Thurs 6th Sept: They keep coming

One of today's littles ones
We took in another group of ex-breeder dogs today, including huskies, labradors and rottweilers, just a year old or under.  In addition there was a chihuahua and a Sheltie, although not youngsters like the bigger breeds, so there is a huge choice of dogs whatever size and age you are looking for.
The female chocolate lab is at Ap Lei Chau, the male at Tai Po

While we are happy that we have been able to save these dogs from a horrible life and future, having all of these young purebreeds makes it even harder for our beautiful mixes to be noticed, and that's the downside.  Still, at least the mongrels will never have to endure the horrors of  breeding kennels, other than those that are passed off as being one breed or another.  It's always amusing to see dogs that have been bought for thousands of dollars as something or other when in reality there's nothing pure about them.  The most common breed for this is the shiba inu, many of whom look just like a bog-standard village dog.  Not that it makes them any less worthy of love and a home, but then no dog is better or worse than any other in those terms.
These were from an earlier group of dogs rescued from the breeder

Rum at WNP last Sunday

There are two happy adoptions to mention today, although one won't physically take place until Sunday morning when puppy Rum will be picked up from our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre.  That means her appearance at last Sunday's Whiskers N Paws afternoon, when she met her family-to-be, was her last one and only sister Raisin will be back this weekend to try her luck.

The other adoption was confirmed following a trial period, and while young Malinois Harry still has some training needed, his new family are patient enough to work through his behaviour issues.  This breed is known to be both very intelligent and incredibly strong, and a smart dog is often a lot more challenging than one who is happy just to cuddle and chase a ball. It's always very important when choosing a dog to take character and energy levels into account and not to make the decision based only on looks.
Harry's adoption was confirmed today
