Tues 6th Feb: 2 + 2 at Tai Po

Nala and Elliot have smart new coats to go home in
Today's big news was all about Tai Po for a change, and the fact that two dogs were adopted together while another pair left for a trial with the resident cat.  Nala and Elliot were the confirmed couple, and as both had started life as Lamma puppies of course I'm very happy for them, even if they did have to wait years for this moment.  I won't give the names of the two that still have to pass the cat test just in case they aren't successful, but again they are lovely mixed breeds who deserve this chance.

5 year-old Tamsin is a very sweet girl

The two ex-breeder golden retrievers, adult and baby, went to Acorn for their check-ups, with the  puppy also being X-rayed to see what was going on with the footless leg.  The results aren't good in terms of fitting a prosthetic, and in any case at just six weeks the puppy is too young to have anything done.  However we have had some very kind offers of potential help from specialists in this type of work, as well as one of our adopters saying he could print a 3D foot if needed.  This is all pioneering stuff in Hong Kong as to my knowledge it's never been done before, so while it's very sad that the puppy has been born with life-affecting defects, it will be interesting and exciting to see if he can be the first to be fitted with a 3D-printed limb.
The baby boy may be able to have a printed foot

The mother dog is a very sweet girl, still full of milk poor thing, as breeders take the pups away at far too early an age, and sell them on to pet shops.  I was expecting the heartworm test to come back with a positive result as they normally do, but this time it was negative thankfully so at least that's one procedure we, and the dog, won't have to deal with.

These 3 girls plus boy Toby came with heartworm

The ex-breeder poodles we took in a couple of weeks ago were at Acorn today for their heartworm injections, actually two, one day apart, so now they will have to have restricted exercise for six weeks while the dead worms in the heart break down and eventually disappear.  All of these procedures carry risks, and prevention is essential to make sure the dogs are never infected.  Heartworm is carried by mosquitoes, and there's plenty of them around in the warmer months.

The Shiba baby was adopted today
It was no surprise that the just-surrendered shiba inu puppy was adopted today, and we're happy that he went to one of our ex-puppy fosters so we know it's a loving home.
