Thurs 1st Feb: Please visit our Tai Po Homing Centre

This is vizsla-cross Mick and he has an identical brother called Mack still waiting
It was a very good start to 2018 with forty six dogs and puppies adopted in January, a very encouraging total which I hope will be repeated in February, if not increased.  I'd love to see more larger adults being chosen from the Tai Po Homing Centre as there are so many amazing dogs there that really need their own homes, and with the temperature in some parts of Hong Kong dipping to below zero at times it makes me want to try much harder to achieve that.  If you are interested in adopting you can take a look at all of the dogs' photos and profiles on our www.hongkongdogrescue.com website, or come and meet them in person at 6 Shek Lin Road, Tai Po.   Our staff know all of the dogs and their personalities, and can introduce you to those who would be the best match for your home, lifestyle and family.   The lucky dogs who found homes in January are:

The dogs are waiting for me to finish my blog
Even though the dogs on Lamma never have the opportunity to meet potential adopters, they are at least warm and cosy inside sleeping on their beds and donated sofa cushions, including a new batch that arrived today.  Thank you to everyone for sending unwanted bedding, blankets and quilts, all of which have been put to good use.

I took an old poodle from AFCD today, surrendered because of a human baby coming, if that's the true story.  The fact is the poodle has what is almost certainly a typical food allergy which has been there for a long time and left untreated, so now there is little hair and inflamed skin.  Poodles and white dogs often have allergies, and are fed totally inappropriate food with the addition of nasty "snacks" which are nothing more than cheap ingredients with the addition of chemicals to make them appealing.  Probably half of the small dogs at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre are on restricted diets which don't include the most common of problem meats, beef and chicken.
The coats hide the awful balding skin

The two ex-breeder dogs, a female Yorkie and a male chihuahua type, also have terrible skin for whatever reason, which could include scabies (mites), allergies, a thyroid problem or retained testicle, so now begins the task of finding out what the problem is and fixing it.
