Fri 2nd Feb: We have a new indoor puppy space!

The new puppy area at Whiskers N Paws will be ready for Sunday
We have so much coming up this month in terms of events, and that's not including the regular Puppy Afternoons at Whiskers N Paws, every Sunday from 2pm until 5pm, and in case you were worried about it being too cold to be outside at the moment, don't be.  There is a new inside area that has been purpose-built for the puppies and it will be open just in time for this Sunday.   We have lots of puppies for you to meet so come early.

I have been caught out too many times to want to advertise any dogs in advance of their arrival, as more times than not they never turn up, but in this case it's a golden retriever puppy that needs exceptional help.  I'm told the pup is six weeks old, but again I can't say for sure that's correct, but let's say it's very young.  The reason this puppy is coming to us from the breeder is because it has lost a foot, and while the reason we were given is that the mother bit it, I find that hard to believe.  I think it would be most unusual for a mother dog to badly injure her pup unless the conditions of their pen, enclosure or cage were such that the dog acted out of character.  In any case the reason for the injury is irrelevant now as the damage has been done, but we will need to assess the situation and decide if a full leg amputation will be necessary.  Having just a foot missing is very difficult for a dog as they will be tempted to use the leg, and that will cause all sorts of problems.

There are also two adult golden retrievers coming at the same time as the puppy, and one of them might be the mother, I don't know.   Based on the past breeder dogs we've taken in, these adults won't be in good condition physically, but they should have good temperaments.   If you are interested in adopting or fostering either the puppy or either of the two adults (I was told five to six years old, but who knows), please complete the Adoption Questionnaire on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt), or for foster enquiries email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com.

The coming weekend's Pet Expo booth is going to be double the size of this previous one
Next weekend, 9th to 11th February, is going to be a busy one with the Pet Expo running over the three days and the West Kowloon Cultural District hosting another Freespace Happening on  Sunday 11th February.  There's going to be lots of things to buy, see and participate in at both locations, so make sure you get to the Pet Expo on Friday and Saturday so the Sunday is free for the West Kowloon event.  Details of both will be posted on our Hong Kong Dog Rescue Facebook page, and again on my blog for those of you who aren't on Facebook.
