Mon 5th Feb: A 3-footed puppy

The 6-week old puppy has a back foot missing
The golden retriever puppy finally arrived today, just as I was getting in a taxi to leave Ap Lei Chau after having waited all afternoon to see it and what the situation was with the supposed missing foot.  Well the poor pup really does have the entire foot missing and is walking on just the bone, so he will be seeing Dr Tony first thing on Tuesday.  I immediately thought about the amazing work done by the superstar TV vet in the UK using 3D-printed body parts and it would seem to be an ideal solution, but whether there's any possibility of that in Hong Kong I don't know.  At worst the puppy will need to have the whole back leg amputated, but that won't be the end of the world as dogs cope perfectly well on three legs.  The important thing, given the breed, is that the hips are properly formed as the remaining leg will need to be strong enough to take the weight.  Either way we already have two offers of a home for this baby so he's a lucky one.
We were told this girl is 5 or 6 years old

The reason the puppy came so late in the afternoon was that an adult golden retriever needed to be dropped off at Tai Po first, so she is now there and also in need of a home.  I tried to check the age but the microchip has no registered owner attached so it will be another case of estimating age based on teeth and general condition.  If you are interested in adopting this girl please complete the Adoption Questionnaire on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt).
The ex-breeder Yorkie is adopted after a very short stay with us

The Yorkie that was also from a breeder and arrived last week had her adoption confirmed after just a short time in a foster home, and the chihuahua (type) that arrived with her also now has a foster home.  Thank you to both adopter and foster for giving this little dogs a home, whether temporary or permanent.

Sadly we took in another dog today, a one year-old mixed breed who had been adopted as a baby pup.  I had actually suggested that the pup be returned shortly after adoption when I could see the mother was struggling to cope, but that idea was rejected - until now.  It's obviously extremely upsetting for us all to have this sort of thing happen, and according to the helper who brought the dog to us (as expected), she's a good girl.    I think it was Cactus who first noticed how similar Candy looked to volunteer Cammy's adopted dog Sophie, and checking the records we found that they really are sisters, so Cammy has offered to foster.  I hope Sophie accepts her sister as well as she has previous foster puppies, and we are really happy that Candy has somewhere to stay until she is adopted.

I can't wait for the promised warmer weather towards the end of this week, and I'm sure most people are feeling the same.  I have been concerned about my baby foster turtles and their welfare so I bought a water heater for them today, but really they need proper homes if anyone can take them.  Learning from a dedicated Red-Eared Slider Facebook page, I now know that one of the turtles is intimidating the other, so they should be adopted separately.  If anyone would like a little turtle please email me at sally@hongkongdogrescue.com, thanks.
