Adorable new puppies |
Three of the new puppies are already in a foster home, and you can check out Instagram @why_i_foster for photos and regular updates. The other two pups in the litter are due to be picked up on Wednesday to go to foster, and we have already received a few enquiries about adoption. As a reminder, these babies are currently too young to be separated from their sisters, so any potential adopter will have to wait a couple of weeks at least, or have a puppy-friendly dog in the home that will accept a youngster.
This is the time to remind everyone that puppies are not just for Christmas, they're for life, and they should never be given as gifts at any time of the year. In fact the holiday season is probably the worst time to be adopting a puppy unless you have planned it well in advance, and accept that at least one person will have to make sure that the puppy is fed, has water, and lots of companionship. If you're having people over for Christmas/New year, make sure the puppy is allowed to rest and sleep, and not be overwhelmed by the noise and activities. Remember they're babies, and like babies of any kind they spend most of their time sleeping, with regular feeds (and pooping) and playtimes in between. When all of the parties and holidays are over, the puppy will still be there and needing your time and attention for the next 15-plus years.
Please also remember that our Tai Po Homing Centre is full of dogs that would do anything to be part of your family if you'd give them a chance. They were also puppies once, and for some it wasn't that long ago.
