I keep forgetting that it's December and that Christmas is only three weeks away. This is always a quiet period for adoptions as so many families are planning their holidays, and then it's New Year and Chinese New Year, so really not a good time for the dogs and puppies. Thankfully not everyone leaves Hong Kong over the festive season and there were two lucky dogs chosen from our Kennedy Town Centre. The first of these was Beemer, followed by second-time-lucky Ella (photo to follow).
Ella had been adopted previously but it hadn't worked out and we took her back. It's not that there was anything wrong with her, it's just that we don't know where most of our dogs come from or what their history is. Even if they haven't been badly treated in the past, losing their home, and maybe more than once, and then coming to HKDR means that they feel insecure and anxious. It can take time for them to settle and feel secure in their new lives, and in some situations the adopters don't feel they can handle the process.
Pansy needs a forever home |
We have one very sweet dog in a lovely foster home, and she also took time to lose her initial fear. "Just wanted to give you some happy updates. Pansy is doing a lot better - she's showing a lot more excitement and energy, our walks have gotten longer and she's slowly and steadily opening up. I was telling Cindy that she barely wagged her tail when she first came to us and used to flinch if someone got too close. Now she comes wagging her tail for cuddles (and chicken!) Super proud of her!! She's still super picky about food, will only eat chicken but slow and steady! Thanks for all that you do for dogs, and thank you for all your advice for Pansy!".
It's worth mentioning that our very experienced trainer, Cactus, is on hand for all foster dogs as well as those that have been adopted from HKDR.
Porter when he arrived at HKDR |
Another foster dog who has found his forever home is Porter the border collie, and he too came to us with some issues, in his case separation anxiety.
Rennie in front
Jimmy Tsang was back with his camera at Whiskers N Paws for the Puppy Adoption Day 3rd Dec 2023, and of course the photos are amazing. It was Rennie's first time, and you can see she had a blast.
