Buster on the left |
Gorgeous little Buster was adopted today from our Kennedy Town Homing Centre, and he has a ready-made playmate to make his settling-in easier. I had wondered why Buster was still with us when I'd expected him to be snatched up very quickly, but as I always feel when there's a delay like this, he was just waiting for the right home to come along.
Pickle is a distemper survivor |
Ex-breeder shiba puppy Pickle also had his adoption confirmed after a trial to see how he and the resident shiba got along. It wasn't an immediate friendship, but now the two are playing happily together.
Rufus on Sunday |
Little Rufus was also taken home for fostering/trial adoption, leaving Romy as a single puppy following Jack's adoption on Sunday. Hopefully Bandit will be taking Jack's place, as his foster family are heading off for their holidays anyway.
All 4 are now in foster homes |
The last of the latest puppies were picked up by their now-foster parents, and hopefully at least one of them won't be coming back. Elfie and Enzo are both very cute and lovely, so it would be hard to choose just one of them. For lovely updates on some of the other young puppies who are currently in foster homes you can check out photos and videos on Instagram @ pawfect_foster_diary, and @ foster_doggie_hk.
Our Christmas Newsletter was sent out to everyone on our mailing list, and in case you didn't receive it I'll post it here:
Dear HKDR Supporter,
I can't believe how fast this year has flown by, and that Christmas is less than two weeks away. How did that happen?
2023 has been an interesting year, with some highs and lows, and definite financial struggles to keep us relentlessly working on all fronts.
The highlight of every year is the number of dogs and puppies we have found homes for, and this year the total was 443 adoptions, with 463 arrivals to our Homing Centres. Our fostering network plays a big and important role in all of this, and our thanks as always to all foster parents and our volunteer Foster Coordinator, Cindy.
Bringing in the funds to be able to help the dogs and puppies is also vital, and there are many sponsors we need to thank for their support in so many ways. Much of our food costs are now covered thanks to the generous donations of Buddy Bites, so huge thanks are due on a very practical basis.
Whiskers N Paws have been our close partner and supporter for many years now, and apart from hosting the regular Sunday puppy adoption parties, this year WNP were also the title sponsors for Peak to Fong, making a fantastic return after far too long. The event was a great success, with so many other participating sponsors being part of such a wonderful day.
Gino's Gelato were back with their Giant Cheque, representing the previous year's sales of Doggie Gelato, and as part of the Aqua Group they have also been an amazing supporter and sponsor over many years.
The Knights of Alba hosted a wonderful wine and truffle Gala Dinner, with proceeds from the raffle being donated to HKDR. As always at any event there were many adopters of our dogs and puppies present, and it's always lovely to hear how much the dogs are loved and appreciated.
Without government funding, donations from charitable foundations such as the
Fu Tak Iam Foundation and the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation are incredibly valuable and meaningful, so we're immensely grateful for their generous support.
Other important partners include ForeverGift HK, a free Will-writing service whose legacy donations mean hope for the future.
I also need to give thanks to our all-important Life Saver Club Members, those who sponsor our less adoptable dogs and long-term residents on a monthly basis. Whether you're already an adopter, or for whatever reason are unable to bring a dog into your home, please consider joining this exclusive club of supporters. You can find all of the details at https://hongkongdogrescue.

I want to let you into a big secret to end the year, and I hope I'm not jumping ahead of myself by mentioning that there's the possibility that we may have found the perfect location for a new Homing Centre which would be big enough to accommodate all of the Hong Kong side operations. As excited as we are by the potential, we're going to need a big chunk of money to be able to move ahead, and time is of the essence. Could this be our big Christmas present for 2023, and can you help? If so, please go to https://hongkongdogrescue.

I hope you enjoy a wonderful Christmas and New Year holiday, and all of us at HKDR send you our heartfelt thanks, and best wishes for a happy and successful 2024.
Please come back to adopt!
With warmest regards,
Sally Andersen
