Tues 19th Dec: Christmas arrivals

It was quite a challenging day for me today, as I needed to send one of my Lamma dogs to Acorn for a chronic ear infection and just happened to choose a day when it was so windy that no sampans were willing to take us back home in the afternoon.  Fortunately, after a considerable wait a speedboat operator agreed to make the cross-channel trip, but that meant poor Treacle being tossed around at the front, and some very difficult moments while the boat was bouncing up and down as the crate was being unloaded.  I was definitely very happy to finally get home, and I'm sure Treacle was even happier than I was. There are definitely downsides to living where I do, even though I wouldn't change it for anywhere else.

Despite it being Christmas this weekend, we'll be at Whiskers N Paws on Sunday for a Christmas Eve Puppy Party, 2pm to 4pm, and on Christmas Day we've arranged to pick up some dogs from two separate AFCD Centres.
A young pom boy

One of these is a senior poodle, almost 13 years old, with the others being a Jack Russell, a young pomeranian, a shiba inu, a small-sized mixed breed, a doglet and some adult mongrels.

The JR is 8 years old

Our Homing Centres will be open as normal throughout the holidays, and I'm sure the staff and volunteers would appreciate any gifts you might care to drop off, either for the humans or the dogs.

Our interest in the dogs and puppies adopted from HKDR doesn't end when they leave us to start their new lives, and although there are a few cases where things don't work out as hoped, the majority of adoptions result in very happy dogs and their families.  Sometimes the updates we receive are to let us know that the dogs have sadly passed away, while others are to show us the wonderful lives they're enjoying in all parts of the world.  This is one of those happy stories:

Happy families, dog and human!

"In November 2021, a group of 5 small black and white dogs arrived at HKDR.  Our Wonton (formerly Bonnie) was part of this pack.

Thanks to your team's help, we managed to connect with 3 of the other dogs and had a party / family reunion yesterday.  It was such fun to meet the other dogs, watch them interact and learn how amazingly happy their lives are with such fabulous families.

One family adopted 2 other dogs from HKDR and they joined in the fun too!

FYI: Beemer kept his name and the other dogs are now Pippin (formerly Binky) and Brandi (formerly Brenda).

The humans and dogs all had a great time and agree we need to do more of these meet-ups.

As always, thanks for everything you do for the dogs!"

Apart from the new dogs coming in over Christmas, I'm sure I don't need to remind you that we have many small, medium and large dogs waiting patiently for their chance to be one of those lucky ones. Quite a few of the small dogs at our Kennedy Town Centres come to us as very scared individuals, but with the help of the staff and dedicated volunteers there's a complete change in their behaviour and they go on to become happy and fun-loving characters.  Here's a video of one of those small dogs, Poppy, made by a volunteer.

If you would like to offer Poppy, or any other dog, a home, please start by completing the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/.
