Thurs 21st Dec: More new dogs for Christmas

It's certainly cold right now, and I hope you're all managing to stay rather warmer than me as I have to leave the doors open for the dogs to go out, and come back in.  At least I can just keep adding more layers, and I wear as much indoors as I do outside.

Diesel is available for adoption

We received more dogs today from AFCD, three larger mixed breeds than went to our Tai Po Homing Centre, and a Jack Russell who is now staying at Kennedy Town.  His new name is Diesel, and he's a very happy and friendly boy in case you're interested in this breed.

I was also asked if we could take in more shiba inu from a breeder, I assume the same breeder as before, and they will arrive on Friday.  There's a five month-old puppy boy, two ten month-old boys and a three year-old female.   They're apparently healthy, and maybe the breeder is just having a Christmas clear-out, who knows. Obviously I don't have any photos to share yet, but other than perhaps the colour I think everyone knows what a shiba looks like.

Kira also enjoys moderate exercise in the dog park

We still have sweet shiba girl Kira who is waiting to be chosen, and she too came from a breeder but with post-distemper leg twitching, which is quite severe.  She's on medication to control the twitching, and she has regular swimming sessions to help strengthen her muscles, but more than anything else she needs a home.

For all adoption enquiries please start by completing the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/.

I'm wondering if we should be asking for Frostie Fosters for the Tai Po dogs, but realistically we would need the dogs to stay for the whole of the Christmas and New Year period to make it worthwhile.  I don't know if it's related to the very cold weather, which must be near freezing at Tai Po, but we have lost a couple of our senior dogs this week, namely Andy and Carmen.  Of course death is a natural part of the Cycle of Life, and a dog's lifespan is very short when compared to a human, but we do our very best to give all of our dogs as much love and comfort as possible given our circumstances.  This includes the treats and toys that have been so kindly donated over the past days, and we (meaning the dogs) do appreciate them very much.

For Frostie Fosters please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com  if you are already registered, or complete the form at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/volunteer/fostering/.  Thank you.
