Thurs 14th Sept: Catching up on the small dog news

Frankie
Many of our smaller dogs stay in foster homes while waiting for adoption so when they leave, or stay for ever as often happens, it's not as noticeable as it would be if they were adopted from the Homing Centre directly.  Our Foster Coordinator Cindy arranges the meetings and the subsequent adoption paperwork, so I often forget to mention these dogs that are quietly beginning their new lives.
Hudson

A few of the recent adopted foster dogs are Frankie and Hudson who are in the same home, schnauzer Fritzi, poodle Roxy, koala-nose Trafford and bulldog Jolene of course.
Trafford's transformation

Many of these little dogs are from breeders, either directly via a go-between or AFCD, and having been caged most of their lives have to learn how to be real dogs again.  Of course our own very experienced HKDR trainer Cactus is happy to help by offering advice and tips.
Tiny Matchstick the day she came to us

We still have many lovely little dogs both at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre or in foster homes, including one year-old tiny poodle girl Matchstick, who not only had to have one leg amputated but also the other knee repaired and is now very happily running around.
Paddy's big eyes can't see

Paddy is blind, but like so many other dogs who can't see it really doesn't bother him.  Dogs are quite amazing when it comes to making up for lack of sight or hearing by using their other senses.
We're so grateful to Maya's training foster for giving her a chance

We're also very happy to hear about huge improvements in the poodles who have gone for training in their respective foster homes, because we always knew that their "bad" behaviour was only due to a misunderstanding of a poodle's natural intelligence and need for mental stimulation.  In their original homes and before they came to HKDR they had been caged or smacked, both of which are the worst things you can do to any dog let alone a poodle.  Now Maya is showing what a happy and smart character she really is, while Nobby and Teddy are loving their cuddles.

They still need experienced adopters who can continue with their training, and who understand the poodle mind and behaviour, but in the right home all three of these little dogs are ready to move on if you would like to meet them.  We have to recommend homes without children, but if you are interested in any of the dogs mentioned please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com for details and to arrange a meeting.
