Fri 15th Sept: More small dog stories

Dolly, 2 years old
I took the new shih tzu to AFCD for licensing as she didn't have a microchip, and also gave her a name, Dolly.  She's supposed to be two years old and is such a sweet girl, but she has already lost one eye and is producing no tears at all in the other, a condition called dry eye which results in blindness. It's sadly very common in shih tzus which is why there are many one-eyed or totally blind little dogs like Dolly, or our other young shih tzu Blinky.  Hopefully with lubricating drops and gel we can save Dolly's sight, as well as making her a lot more comfortable.

Volunteer Harryn made this funny strip
Talking of Blinky, you may recall that when he first arrived he and Pugwash immediately started playing, and didn't stop.  Now Blinky has moved his attention and affection to Stan the dachshund, leaving poor Pugwash out in the cold.  Blinky may be blind and need surgery on both of his back knees but that doesn't stop him from loving life and being the sweetest little character.  We need to tear him away from his friends though and find him a foster home so he can have his knees repaired and stop the playing while he recovers, so if anyone can help by fostering please contact Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com, thank you.
Mandy is a tiny girl

Of course Pugwash and Stan would also like homes of their own too, as well as another young foster returnee who was taken to Acorn with acute diarrhoea which was at first suspected to be pancreatitis.  Thankfully it seems to be nothing worse than just an upset tummy and she'll be fine.  Mandy is an adorable and tiny ex-breeder girl, who for some reason unknown to us had her tail removed right at the base.  Initially it seemed that this had caused her to become incontinent but luckily that's not the case, although she does need drops to help her bladder control.  Once Mandy has recovered she'll come back to our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre and be ready for her forever home, and hopefully that won't take long.
Clementine is in great shape now

Then there's small-sized sharpei girl Clementine who was a "teenage" mother of five pups, all now adopted.  Clementine was always a loving and very sweet girl but her coat and general condition were very poor when she first went to her foster home.  Now she's looking great, has been desexed and is ready to start the rest of her life.  If you are looking for a small, sweet, loyal and loving dog please think about one year-old Clementine.

I'll be back at Whiskers N Paws on Sunday with all of the puppies, young to doglet age, for those of you thinking of bringing a new member of your family home.  See you there!
