Fri 8th Sept: Enya needs a home please

We don't want Enya to have to return to Tai Po
Lovely Tai Po dog Enya had to have surgery on a cruciate problem recently and she was lucky to find a foster home for her recovery, but now that time has come to an end and she will be returning to the Homing Centre.  It's always a double-edged sword when dogs go to foster homes and experience a real life, then are jolted back to reality when they have to return.  In fact it makes us reluctant to send dogs out for fostering unless there's a reason, as in Enya's case, as it seems cruel somehow to let them know what they are missing.  So now we want to find Enya a forever home, and this is what her foster had to say:

Our time with Enya has been really lovely. She was shy to begin with but has started coming out of her shell and she will make an amazing pet for potential adopters. She is the perfect dog for people who haven't owned a dog before as she is very gentle and quiet. She's happy to sleep in her bed and come to you for the occasional cuddle so is not a needy dog. She barely makes any noise, we didn't hear her bark once! She loves going for walks, we took her for about 3 walks a day, only 15 mins long each so that her leg wasn't being over exerted.

We wish we could adopt Enya long term but we will be moving back to the UK early next year and don't know what our plans will be from there and also if we can manage the relocation of a dog.

Enyas leg injury (back right leg) has improved. She is still limping slightly when she has been lying down for a while but once she gets up and walking it seems fine. Hopefully it just needs some more healing time.

We will be very sorry to be handing her back and hope someone can take her home for good soon.

Please complete the Adoption Questionnaire on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt) if you are interested in Enya or any other dog.

It's time to party!
I've been distracted this week from my usual dog-related work, mainly thanks to the Diamond Dogs Gala which takes place on Saturday evening, so I wasn't planning to go to AFCD until next Monday. However I received a message from the Pokfulam Animal Management Centre letting me know that there were four puppies and a bulldog ready for re-homing if I would like to take them.  At that time I was already out and about so asked Kathy in the office to go in my place, which she duly did.  I met up with everyone later in the afternoon at the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre and took the puppies back to Lamma with me.  They are all lovely, healthy pups, around two months old but very large.  I'm hoping that all of the people who were interested in the Neapolitan mastiff Luigi will consider adopting one of these big pups.  I can't say what their eventual size will be but if you compare them to the now-older litter of tan babies you'll see the difference.  Of course you can meet them all at Whiskers N Paws on Sunday afternoon, or look out for the photos that will be posted on Monday.

Boris in the back or our van
The bulldog is only two year old and I've called him Boris.  He has the typical bulldog skin problems, and if there is one breed that suffers the most from inbreeding it would be this one.  These poor dogs are so misshapen that they are incapable of natural birth, and they are born needing surgery for one reason or another.  We haven't had time to assess Boris's behaviour yet so we would only let him go to an experienced bulldog adopter.
No more puppies for Daffy!

Daffy the schnauzer was adopted today from Ap Lei Chau.  She came to us from a breeder via AFCD, so she's doubly lucky.  Not only has she found her forever family but she escaped the horrors of a life of producing multiple litters.  She's obviously already had plenty, but she's young enough to start again.
