Mon 9th Aug: You heard it here first!

Applications for the 2022 Cube Calendar will open soon

It hasn't been formally announced yet but we'll be open for submissions to our 2022 Cube Calendar any day now.  This was previously such a popular annual item that we produced one for 2021 and it sold out very quickly.   Details will be shared soon but all dogs included must be adopted (not bought), so start sorting through your best photos to have one ready to submit once applications open.

Plum is a small-medium size

I received a message from AFCD Pokfulam that another dog from a cruelty case last year was now available for release, so driver Ming went straight over to pick her up.  She's a small-medium sized adult, now called Plum, and although inevitably confused by her new situation and all of the other dogs she's now sharing her space with, she's a very sweet girl who's happy to approach you when you call her.  Of course she has no idea her name is now Plum, and maybe if she's lucky enough to be adopted soon she won't have to learn it.

All of the dogs coming to us are given new names, so adopters often comment that the dog they have just taken home doesn't seem to respond to their name when called.  That's because it's as strange to the dog as any other word, so they have to learn to associate a particular sound to meaning them.  It doesn't take long to teach a dog a new name, and our trainer Cactus is always available to every adopter to explain how to do this, as well as everything else you might want to ask about.

I was also asked if we'd be able to take in a small-sized mother and her puppies, to which I said yes, but I won't share any photos until they actually arrive just in case they don't.  The same applies to the five year-old white pomeranian due to be surrendered on Saturday, but if this kind of dog is of interest to you please keep checking for news updates.

Rufus is growing but Ruthie stays small

I spent some time playing with the puppies at the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre today, not too long admittedly as the little rascals wanted to tear the shirt from my back while I was being distracted by others attacking my shoelaces.  That's what you have to expect from young puppies with needle-sharp teeth when sitting on the floor with them, but I did notice one little girl was much smaller than the others.  That's Ruthie, a very sweet puppy like her assumed-brother Rufus, and I think it's safe to say she won't be growing into a large adult.  If you're interested in Ruthie, or any of our other dogs and puppies, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/
