Fri 20th Aug: It will be Christmas before we know it

The weekend is here again, and I don't think it's only me who feels that the days are whizzing by at an alarmingly fast rate.  It won't be too long before we'll be talking about Christmas and all that the holiday brings, one of which will be our own and very popular 2022 Cube Calendar (please remember to submit your own adopted dog's photo for inclusion by the 2nd September at https://hongkongdogrescue.com/2022cubecalendar/ ).

Another great gift for dog lovers and supporters is

The Lion Rock Press

The Lion Rock Press rescue dogs jigsaw puzzle, and being one of the beneficiaries of the proceeds we were asked to make a short video about HKDR, and that was what I was doing at the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre today.  As always the puppies were providing the entertainment, and it was my first time to see the adorable and delightful new sisters Lizzie, Lyra and Lula.  I suspect they'll be in new homes before too long.

Also new to me were brothers Watson and Wilson, just returned from their foster home and already very happily joining in with all of the others.   You'll notice Wilson looks exactly like so many others that have gone before him, the most recent of which was Percy, and Peppa who's still at our Tai Po Homing Centre (although hopefully not for much longer).  It's such a distinctive look with the white coat, pink nose and little ears, and all of them have shared the same super-sweet personality, Wilson included.

The cocker spaniel who'd been abandoned in the middle of nowhere (detailed in yesterday's post) turned up as promised, and it's a girl, not microchipped and with an infected wound full of maggots on her back paw. We weren't able to get her to a vet as it was late and she was already very scared, but everything will need to be treated and checked, including her age, plus microchipping and licensing.  I haven't come up with a name yet but I was thinking of calling her Phaedra after a cocker spaniel I inherited many years ago while living in London.

Lilian is very small but prefers Tai Po

Gorgeous little Lilian was sent back to Tai Po today from Ap Lei Chau after it had become clear that she was miserable and missing her friends, and the more open living at the big Homing Centre.  We moved her initially because of her petite size, but she's clearly not a city girl and she's already much happier being back at Tai Po.  Knowing this we'll have to make sure that when she's adopted she goes to a suitable environment, and that won't be a busy and built-up area.
