Tues 16th June: Splitting pairs

Coffee going home
Adoptions are happy events but they can also be tinged with sadness, as happened today when beagle Coffee was taken home leaving her "brother" of six years behind at the Homing Centre.  Poor Bailey stood at the door crying, and I was wondering if we'd done the right thing by allowing them to be separated.  Six years is a long time in a dog's life and animals form close bonds with each other as well as their human family members, but even tiny dogs like Fidget and Ticket seem unable to find a home as a pair.  It seems strange to me that so many people say they couldn't handle a pair, when the dogs in question are so small, and in any case having two is often a lot easier than one in the sense that they take care of each other.

Chihuahua-cross-terriers Ticket and Fidget
In fact we even discussed the possibility of breaking up Ticket and Fidget if it meant they could find homes, specially as Fidget had some bones in her foot broken due to an accident on Sunday so has to be kept separated from Ticket anyway.  He can be a bit rough with her and she just wants to be picked up and cuddled.  Fidget needs to be close enough to Concordia Pet Care in Happy Valley to be taken there to have the bandage on her foot checked and changed, so if anyone can foster her (and even better adopt) please let Cindy know by emailing foster@hongkongdogrescue.com.

As for Bailey the beagle, he needs a home please.
Bailey is such a sweet boy

Tiny Tessa
I've fallen in love with one of the four puppies that came to us on Saturday, and although of course I love all the dogs and puppies there are some that tug just that little bit harder at the heartstrings.  Tessa is tiny compared to her siblings, but she's also the playful one.  I asked volunteer Harryn if she could take some photos using something as a prop to indicate size, and the cans of dog food did the trick although the photo of Tessa cuddled with normal-sized Ben probably works even better.  We have so many people asking for smaller-sized puppies,  so Tessa's at the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre if you want to meet her.
Ben and Tessa

We have a lot of potential adoptions in the pipeline which I don't want to mention until the Adoption Agreements have been signed, but I can say that puppy Mandy is one of them.  She had her second interview today after the inital meeting at Murray House on Sunday, and it went very well thanks to the foster parents and playmate Kimi.
Mandy will be going to her forever home soon
