Fri 19th June: Every day is Puppy Day!

One gorgeous new puppy boy Carter
We welcomed three more puppies to our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre today, and while they may be a bit too young to be adopted on their own at the moment unless there's another dog in the home, we always have puppies available to meet.
The brother Jackson

I called one of the new babies Eagle, because the white pattern on his chest looks like an eagle with wings spread, and when I heard that it was our volunteer Eagle who took the photo I had to refer to the puppy as Little Eagle.

Our Homing Centres are open every single day of the year without exception, and that means every Sunday, Public Holiday and even during typhoons.  We do prefer that potential adopters complete the questionnaires if advance so we can know if we have what you're looking for, and you can find it at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/

At this time of year when the weather is so hot and humid a lot of puppies come to us with patches of ringworm, which is actually nothing to do with worms but is fungal.  It can be treated topically or with antifungal drugs, but it's always best to avoid giving young puppies medication if possible.   Although ringworm is theoretically infectious and can be transferred to both humans and other animals, in a clean and dry environment this doesn't usually happen.  In the event that it does, in humans it's very easy to deal with simply by using antifungal cream which can be bought from any pharmacy.   Ringworm in puppies quickly disappears once the pups are indoors and not exposed to rain and humidity, perfect conditions for fungus to grow.
Have a wonderful life Brush

There was more good news from Tai Po as our lovely boy Brush was adopted.  He was another survivor from the "Wonderland" cruelty case, and these dogs deserve a home more than any others.  It's really quite incredible how they have retained such sweet and trusting personalities after what they experienced, and we could all learn lessons about letting go of bad memories from these amazing animals.
