Tues 16th April: Accepting the heartbreak

The face that stole a thousand hearts is no more
I've been doing dog rescue work since long before HKDR was set up in 2003, and over the years I've seen many sad stories and too many deaths.  It's part of the package unfortunately, and you can't opt to only experience the happy side of things so accepting that not every life can be saved is the reality.

I'm proud to say that at HKDR we do our very best for every dog or puppy, but sometimes even the best isn't good enough and the only consolation is that we tried.   However I have to admit that sometimes, like now, it's very hard to take when a puppy loses the fight for life, and in this case it's not even just one, but two gorgeous babies that stole the hearts of us all.  They seemed to be doing so well but then suddenly crashed, and despite blood transfusions and everything else that could be done, both Bumble and Duster died and I'm heartbroken. (They are the two pups on either side of Percy, who is from a different litter).
Slipper was sick from the start so she is recovering well

It's seems ironic to say that Slipper was lucky to have had tick fever from the start because it meant she went straight to hospital and she's now recovering.  However as the only one left at the Homing Centre from her litter she's lonely and crying, so we need a foster home and preferable one with another dog or at least someone at home all the time.  Slipper just wants love and cuddles and is happy to just sit on your lap.  Please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com if you can help.
Muffy (right) and her lovely new family

Thankfully there was at least some happy news today as one of the ex-breeder poodles was adopted. Muffy came to us in the same awful condition as all of the dogs from this breeder-from-hell, but after treatment the scabies has resolved and her coat is growing back in.
The five poodles when they first arrived.  Now only Dana and Dido are left.
