Thurs 11th April: Those pesky allergies

Enzo was adopted today
As poodle Enzo was leaving the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre others were arriving from AFCD Shatin, and at the last minute another small dog that was found stray and without a microchip was brought to us.
This cute little guy was found wandering and without a mircochip
The corgi is 9 uears old (female)

The corgi and schnauzer, both females, seem to be very sweet dogs but both have skin problems which are probably due to allergies.  This is such a common issue, particularly with the smaller breeds but it also affects bigger dogs, and it's often food-related but can also be environmental.   With so much inbreeding certain breeds are particularly prone to having allergies, and that includes poodles, bulldogs and most white-haired types.

Feeding and diet is a huge industry these days and there are always new sales gimmicks and claims made about what a dog should or shouldn't be eating.  Organic, grain-free, raw, etc, and it's confusing for everyone, not to mention draining on the pocket.  Fresh food, including vegetables, is cheap and wholesome, so adding a tasty topping of something home-cooked will do everyone a favour.

The weekend is almost here again and that means puppy time at Whiskers n Paws.  We have puppies of all sizes, and although it's impossible to know for sure what the ultimate adult size of a young puppy is going to be, by comparing them at a young age you can at least see which will definitely be bigger and which are more slight and delicate.  Come and meet them and you can see for yourself.
