Tues 12th March: Having to say no

I really, really hate having to say no to dogs that we've been asked to take in, but there's a limit to the capacity of the Homing Centres and the time the staff and volunteers have available.  There's also a backlog of newcomers waiting to see the vet for their initial check-ups, and subsequent treatments or surgeries as needed, so it's not even just about space.

The latest intake waiting for vet appointments

We're also on the verge of having to move out of both Elgin and North Street, Kennedy Town, so there's that consideration too, but even so I really hope that the dogs that had to be turned away today will be able to be accommodated soon.  There may also be a ray of hope on the horizon with another potential site for a new Homing Centre, but following two previous disappointments I don't want to say more at this point.  Hopefully it won't be too long before we can finally move ahead, and start breathing again.

We did say yes to one small dog today, a very lovely poodle that's currently at AFCD and will be with us on Thursday.  This boy is six years old, and as always if you're interested in adopting him or any of our other dogs and puppies, please complete the questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/.

Not all of the dogs at our main Tai Po Homing Centre are large sized, or old, as some are like super-sweet Gabby, a little-big dog (long, but with short legs), or puppies that outgrew the small Kennedy Town spaces.   We can only take in more dogs if and when others leave to create space, so please remember to check out the Tai Po hopefuls, especially if you live in the New Territories and Tai Po is closer to you that Kennedy Town. We're open every single day of the year so it doesn't matter when you want to visit, we'll be there!
