Well it looks as though it's time to pack away the winter woollies and bring out the sunscreen, at last for now. I seem to be regularly putting fleece blankets on the dog beds and then having to gather them all up again, and I'm sure they'll be needed again before the real warm weather starts.
This is typical Alice |
We had some lovely Valentine's Day news from doglet Alice's foster home, and that is that they would love to keep her. Alice is one of the two sisters who have been staying at Whiskers N Paws full time, and they needed somewhere to stay during Chinese New Year when the store was closed. Arlene is already back at WNP as arranged, and she's now the last of that particular litter of exceptionally sweet puppies. I know I've said it before, but it's true. If you want a medium sized perfect family dog, then you still have a chance to adopt Arlene.
It was also a life-changing day for tiny pom Minnie, an ex-breeder dog who was handed over to AFCD (along with also-tiny Maltese, Mouse) when she could no longer make money by producing puppies. As is almost always the case with ex-breeder dogs, when Minnie was checked by a vet we were asked if the age shown on the license was correct, as she seemed to be much older judging from her physical condition. In fact Minnie is only five years old, with Mouse being seven (going on eight years). These poor dogs live a miserable and harsh life with little or no care, so it's no wonder they're completely worn out when they are finally lucky enough to escape.
Talking of breeders (and I'm sure you know how much I hate them), we were asked today if we could find a new home for a young labradoodle who had been imported from Australia. Now at still just one year old, Jasper's "parents" realise they don't have the time to take care of him as they are both working full time. I'm sure there will be many offers of a home for this lovely boy, and as always we will choose the one that we feel can offer the best situation and environment.
