Thurs 8th Feb: One thing that never changes

You can imagine that things are slowing down in the run-up to the Lunar New Year but we're still getting some adoption enquiries, which is all good of course.  I'm also very happy that the two sisters, Alice and Arlene, were offered foster homes for the holiday period, and this will be the first time they will have been separated so I hope they enjoy the individual attention, rather than missing each other.

Something that never changes regardless of the time of year is the dogs that come to us in need of somewhere to stay.  Today's two were from AFCD, one of which had been surrendered by his owner, with the other picked up as a stray (in other words just dumped).  The chances of these dogs being adopted is really very low, so the best that we can do is to provide them with as much love, care and attention as it's possible to do given that we have hundreds of such dogs at our Tai Po Centre, with many more smaller ones at Kennedy Town.

This is where our volunteers make such a difference, as without them we would certainly not be able to cope with such numbers.  Very often individual volunteers will connect with a particular dog, and while adoption may not be possible at least those lucky dogs will receive special attention. Over the Lunar New Year, as with every other holiday period, a large group of Tai Po dogs will be taken out for the day by the volunteers, something that they love of course.  I'm always happy to see the list of dogs that have been chosen for the special day out, and hope that all of those not picked this time will have the chance next time round.   So thank you to all of our volunteers, wherever you help out at, and if you would like to join the team you can apply at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/volunteer/.
