Sun 11th Oct: Busy going nowhere

It's frustrating having a busy day without much to show for it at the end, but that's life and it happens, and at least we had confirmation of Tai Po dog Sean's adoption after a short trial period.  Sean (left in the photo) has been with us for a long time, so knowing he finally has his own soft bed and a friend to share with is more than lovely, it's fantastic.  The friend is Mark, one of the lucky ones that waited a very short time after coming to us from AFCD.

Also lovely news came from Ap Lei Chau as little old and blind Wilby was taken home for fostering, and if all works out with the resident dog then Wilby can stay.

There was no shortage of visitors to Ap Lei Chau to meet the puppies, but rather than making impulsive decisions (on both sides) none were actually taken home.  It's much better to think and to be sure than to say yes and regret it later, and as far as the puppies are concerned they're just happy to be with their friends to play and snuggle so for now there's no rush.

I had two late evening situations to deal with, not at my house this time, with one being about shiba inu King who's currently staying in Damson's previous foster home, my neighbour.  He had vomited and had some diarrhoea after hiking, but I could only suggest waiting to see how he was in the morning.  The update just now was that he's fine again.

I'd actually had my own encounter with a cobra on my daily walk, but with no snake killers left amongst my hiking group only Rag showed any interest.  I was alerted by loud hissing and saw Rag staring face to face with the cobra, but unless a dog actually attacks snakes will usually choose not to strike.  Luckily this was the case today and I managed to call Rag away.

The second situation involved one of the very small puppies now in foster.  There are nine of these babies and they arrived covered in ticks and fleas as well as full of worms.  I can only be thankful that they were brought to us because these parasites can literally suck the life out of young puppies, from inside and out.  Zia was the puppy in trouble and she ended up being taken to stay in hospital in North Point, which meant her brother being left on his own.  Since one of the foster homes is taking care of three of the babies, I was trying to arrange for one of them to move temporarily to keep Zack company, so depending on how Zia is on Monday that transfer will go ahead.
