Now-Paddle as she was found |
I've written many times before about the amazing work done by individual volunteers who go out, usually in the dead of night, to catch stray dogs for desexing and puppies for re-homing. The work also involves feeding the dogs to keep them in the same area and to prevent them from becoming a nuisance as they search for food in bins and barbeque areas, and to lure them into traps so the desexing can be carried out. I have the greatest admiration for these volunteers and their dedication, especially as under the current government rules what they do is considered to be illegal so they face prosecution apart from anything else. For that reason I can never name names even if I knew who these volunteers were, but I will always support what they do.

Paddle safe at Tai Po for now |
I mention these volunteers to thank them once again for their work but also for saving the lives of so many of the puppies that have come to us recently, including the "T" litter of Timmy, Tara, Tessa and Theo, and now another baby I have called Paddle, and she will be joining the others at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre.

The eagle on the chest is clearly visible |
The last baby pup we took in like this was Little Eagle, and now that he's had his first vaccination it was time to move him from his foster home to be with the others at the Homing Centre. He immediately wanted to play with much-bigger Theo, and I'm sure he's thrilled to have friends around him.

Little Eagle is so happy to have a playmate in Theo |
Three already-chosen puppies left Ap Lei Chau today following their vet check and vaccinations, and they were siblings Dotty and Diana, and singleton Denzil.

There's been a lull in the number of dogs and puppies coming to us from AFCD recently, but today I received notice from Sheung Shui Animal Management Centre that there were four Scotties (Scottish terriers, presumably related), an old poodle and five mixed breed adults available for re-homing. Of course we'll take them all in and I'm sure they're all lovely dogs, especially the mongrels whose assessment is almost certainly more stringent that the small breeds. They will all be picked up on Thursday in case you're interested, but for the Scotties which have some from the same home it's likely we'll be looking to home them in pairs.
Paddle is a very cute and lucky baby that she was found by a wonderful volunteer. XXX
