Thurs 9th July: Let's talk about breeders again

We regularly receive enquiries for breeder recommendations, and apart from being completely inappropriate to ask a rescue organisation this question, not to mention insensitive, there isn't a breeder anywhere I would recommend.  There had been a glimmer of faint hope that we'd see some improvements after the amendments to Cap 139b relating to Animal Trader Laws were introduced, but that turned out to be a complete waste of time with only the Animal NGOs being targetted rather than the terrible breeders. Dog rescue groups are out in the open, not hidden in dark and secret places like the breeders.

As soon as the four Scottish terriers arrived from AFCD today and we saw their condition, it was clear that these were breeder dogs and not from a home.  They were filthy and stinking with matted coats and big bald patches, or half hairless.  As much as breeders disgust me that people still buy puppies from these places is just as bad, and the fact that nothing has improved since the Cap139b amendments hugely disappointing (though honestly expected).

In stark contrast the five mixed-breed girls that also arrived from AFCD are lovely, sweet and healthy, at least from the outside as they still have to have heartworm tests.
All of the new dogs will be going to the vet on Friday so we'll have a better idea of their true condition.

There was a huge response to the Facebook post about baby Paddle who was found sitting alone in the undergowth by some volunteers, and I have had to delete the post as a result.  At the moment Paddle is too young to be adopted as an only pup so if we let her go at this point it will only be to an adopter who already has a dog or dogs.  Please remember we have other puppies available to meet at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, including Little Eagle who was also found in circumstance similar to Paddle's and also at a very young age.  I shared all of the photos yesterday so you can see them in that post.

One of the Tai Po dogs who was taken for a trial had her adoption confirmed today, and the lucky girl is Melanie.  She came to us as a baby puppy and spent her younger months at Ap Lei Chau before moving to the big Homing Centre.  She has found herself a wonderful home with a lovely adopter who we have known for a long time.  Well done Melanie!

  1. It's disgraceful that the breeders are still able to get away with such cruelty! The poor dogs. Atleast their future is already looking up now that they have found their way to Sally.
