Weds 4th Sept: Freedom for Otis!

A happy reunion for Otis and Hailey
Working on a Wednesday seems to have become the norm now, but I didn't mind at all going over today as it meant getting Otis out of his AFCD "Death Row" prison.  To quickly recap, Otis and his "sister" Hailey had been left tied to the railings outside SPCA in Wanchai by their then-owner, and in his understandable distress and panic Otis had bitten the SPCA staff member who was untying them.  While Hailey was free to leave AFCD kennels, where both dogs had been sent, Otis was marked as a "biting dog" and the lethal injection awaited him after his ten day "observation period" to make sure that he didn't have rabies (and that's a farce in itself, but another story).  Ultimately I managed to get an agreement to have Otis released, and not wanting to risk any change of heart I went immediately to get him, taking along Cactus and Hailey to help.

Happy Otis at Ap Lei Chau
I wasn't sure how Otis would respond to me after his horrible experience, and knew that having his "sister" there would make a big difference, which it did.  In fact Otis was very calm and easy, happy to see Hailey and to leave his kennel, and in typical boy-dog fashion he seemed to forget everything as soon as he was free.  In fact of the two it's Hailey who is still quite traumatised by the loss of her family, and you can see that she's feeling sad and insecure although still very sweet and quiet.

The two of them are now staying at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre but they need a real home again, and while as a young dog Otis wasn't good with young children (and we still wouldn't suggest him as a family dog), his now ex-owner told me that he had been fine with his three year-old daughter.   In fact I've just heard that Otis was greeting everyone happily when they arrived for work on Thursday, so I hope his one understandable mistake can be forgiven and forgotten.  He's really an affectionate dog who just wants to get on with his life again.

6 adorable babies all now in foster homes
The six newest fluffy-fuzzy baby pups left for their respective foster homes today, making space for the next group of arrivals from AFCD Shatin.  Included are a bulldog and a husky from the same home, both three years old and in poor condition from what seems to be a result of neglect, abuse or both. As always if you're interested in any of the dogs or puppies, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt), or contact Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com for fostering enquiries.

I want this outfit for Bohemian Pupsody
Our big fundraiser "Bohemian Pupsody" is now less that three weeks away, and we're at that stage of pulling everything together to ensure a great night of entertainment and fun.  I need to get my Queen-theme outfit for the night sorted, and whether you dress up or come as you are, remember to make sure you buy your tickets in good time. Visit our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com/event/charityparty/sponsors for details and ticket enquiries.
