Sun 8th Sept: A dying computer

Little Greta was like a brown whirlwind today so photos were impossible
I'm sure everyone will know what I'm talking about when I say my computer is driving me crazy with the slow-if-any response and the constant freezing.  What should take me minutes every morning is taking hours, so I'm just going to share Eric Tang's wonderful album from Today's Whiskers N Paws session and let the photos speak for themselves:   Puppy Adoption Day 8 September 2019.   There were no actual adoptions but a few puppies moved to foster homes, starting with Eliza in the morning (she has a leg injury from over-enthusiastic playing) then Radar, Kerry and Blini during the afternoon, and as a lovely surprise shy Filly was chosen after returning to the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre.

If you look through the photo album you'll see several lookalike puppies, and there are actually five from the same litter, all luckily in foster homes.  Costa is the one who likes kissing all the chidren, and she's the sweetest girl puppy ever.  She stays with her sister Rica, while Domingo is on his own. Samba and Cuba are also in foster care together, so to meet any of these lovely pups please contact Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com, or you can come to Whiskers N Paws any Sunday afternoon.  It's really helpful to us if you can complete the Adoption Questionnaire in advance, and you can find it on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt).

Shy Filly at Whiskers N Paws
If I was forced to choose a favourite puppy of the moment it would have to be Greta, probably because she reminds me of my Griffin (best dog in the world).  Greta is quite petite and will be a medium-sized adult at most, but she has a huge personality and loads of energy.  I wanted to share a photo but as she was so busy playing it was impossible for Eric to get a good shot of her.

Older puppies Sailor and Petra, who stay full time at Whiskers N Paws, were allowed inside to join the youngsters when they got bored and too hot outside, and both behaved so well I was seriously impressed.  I was expecting some bullying given the age and size difference, but they were both perfectly polite and gentle, and as always I recommend these older puppies to adopters who have never had a dog before.  With Sailor and Petra what you see is what you get, and there's no guesswork needed for size, looks or temperament.

We had to say a very sad goodbye to one of our little dogs today as Parsnip's condition became so unstable that it wasn't fair to him to keep going.  He had diabetes, which isn't too serious in itself but it is a condition that requires constant care and monitoring, including regular and timely insulin injections.  Food intake is also important, and without 24-hour homecare it was impossible to control the fluctuations in glucose levels which meant Parsnip was in and out of hospital.  We tried asking for a foster home but it's difficult with a senior who needs so much extra care, and without that luxury Parsnip was back in hospital and needing a feeding tube if he was to continue, so as hard as it was we all agreed that it was time to let him go.   Our biggest regret was that having spent his whole previous life as a breeder dog we weren't able to find Parsnip what he needed more than anything, and that was a home.
