Sun 15th Sept: Happy Families

Samb and Cuba join this lovely family
There's really no way of knowing what to expect when getting ready for Sunday's Whiskers N Paws puppy afternoon, and I was very happily surprised by the turnout today as well as the result.  Four pups from the same family were chosen, and maybe if the fifth, Domingo, had been able to come we would have made it complete.  Instead Samba and Cuba were adopted together, with Costa and Rica going to separate homes for trials.  Leaving too was older puppy Farley, heading off to see how the two current ex-HKDR dogs like him.

Greta is exceptionally smart
Everyone thinks that it's the black dogs that get left behind, but in my experience it's also the tri-colours that are less popular and I have no idea why.  Sisters Peppa and Hazel are so pretty, but more importantly they have very sweet personalities.  Luckily they're in a foster home (with Greta) so they're getting lots of love and care, but it's time they went to a forever home.  As for Greta, she totally stole the show this afternoon with her non-stop play and games.  She's super-smart and also has lots of energy, so this is a puppy who will make the most amazing dog for the right person.

Biscuit (l) and Kibble
We had a quick visit from Kibble and Biscuit, still not officially ready for new homes but they dropped by anyway for a while.  Biscuit is the odd one out in the litter being smooth-coated and larger, while the others are fuzzy-fluffy, with Kibble being the smallest of them all.  If you would like to meet any of these adorable pups please contact Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com to arrange.

We had three volunteer photographers today, which was helpful as there were a lot of puppies both inside and out.  This is the first album, with thanks to professional Edwin Datoc

Little Poppy, small in size but huge in personality
Also making her first appearance at Whiskers N Paws was small-sized five month-old Poppy.  She came to us with pins in her leg which had obviously been broken at a very young age, and the pins left in place rather than being removed.  We had that done but it has left Poppy with some bone overgrowth at the site and a limp, but it doesn't stop her from playing and playing, and she made instant friends with Greta.

This coming week is a very busy one, leading up to our big fundraiser "Bohemian Pupsody" on Saturday.  It's a nerve-wracking time as there's so much to do, and we all want to be sure everything goes to plan on the night.

There are so many people to thank for their support, from the volunteer organising team to the sponsors and donors, and of course the guests. Please do visit our HKDR Facebook page to see who donates to our charity, and remember that the auction items are open to outside bids if you want to do so.  Many of these are exclusive and not available for sale on the general market.

Once again many thanks to all partners for making our fundraiser, “Bohemian Pupsody – An Evening with Teddie Mercury” possible.
