Tues 17th Sept: Getting ready to party

It's almost time for the big night
I'm sure you don't need another reminder that Saturday is a big day, at least or those of us going to this year's fundraising "Bohemenian Pupsody" party, as well as HKDR.   The auctions, Live and Silent, are a big part of the evening, and you can bid for any of the items even if you're not going to be there in person.  We have everything from Elton John concert tickets to an African safari to see elephants in the wild, and the link will be posted as soon as it's live.

For some reason a lot of emails end up in Spam inboxes, and it's frustrating to hear "you didn't reply" when I almost always do within a day at most.  Sometimes it's not that important but we also lose homes when potential adopters think we're not interested or don't care enough to get back to them, so if you're waiting for an email please do check your junk mailbox.

I've been asked about the temperament of some of the new dogs and it's very hard to know after such a short time.  Most dogs are nervous when they first arrive and don't show their true colours until they feel settled, and it can work both ways.  Some that appear quiet and calm at first can become outgoing and vocal once they truly feel part of the family, and many shy dogs blossom into very happy and confident characters once they feel secure.  Dogs that may snap out of fear won't need to do that once in a home, although we still wouldn't put them with families where there are young children, and I'm sure you've all seen the before-and-after stories that describe how characters have developed as well as looks change.  Many adopter updates are posted on our Facebook page so please take a look https://www.facebook.com/hkdogrescue/

Another thing we're often asked is whether the dog or puppy is OK with cats, and while we can't know for sure because we don't have cats around, for puppies it's almost certain to be fine.  Puppies just want to be friends with everyone and everything, and if there's an issue it's almost always from the cat's side.  Unless they are a hunting type or a breed with a strong prey drive, most adult dogs are also fine with cats in the home even if they might still chase them outside, and we've never had any reports of the opposite.
