Weds 10th May: Can't see for the smog

Gorgeous Bruno is in foster but there's a new boy like him at AFCD
I think my mind was full of smog today, just like the whole of Hong Kong, and there wasn't much going on in terms of dogs other than a small pom being returned and another one leaving the Homing Centre.  We're on standby for another large intake, some from AFCD, others from breeders, as the throw-out continues.  Today I heard that there would probably be a few breeder labradors needing help soon, not puppies but not old either.  There will also be a collection of small dogs coming from AFCD Pokfulam after a backlog due to the Centre Veterinary Officer being away for the whole month, as well as more Stanley Barracks puppies.

As difficult as it might be to deal with so many dogs arriving at the same time, if this is going to be a short-term problem which will ultimately mean a better deal for all breeder dogs then it can only be a good thing.  In the meantime we need foster homes please, and there are plenty of lovely small dogs available, although no small breed puppies.  I mention this because it seems when people hear the words "ex-breeder dogs" they assume it means puppies and I have had a lot of enquiries for these non-existent babies.  Breeders sell puppies, they don't give them away, and the ones that end up with rescue organisations are adults unless they have a problem which makes them worthless in terms of selling, like the beautiful dachshund puppy with weak leg joints.

Thanks to her foster's efforts, Evie will almost certainly be adopted
Thursday starts the countdown for Sunday's Whiskers N Paws puppy afternoon, at least for me, and I start to prepare everyone for the big day.  Thanks to the hard work of Evie's foster in showing her off as she was taken for walks I think there's a very high chance that she will be leaving with a new family on Sunday, and I hope there will be others too.  There's something for everyone in terms of age, and plenty to choose from.
