Tues 30th May: Dragon Boat Festival

The sound of the cicadas is a sure sign that summer has well and truly arrived, and it was another glorious sunny day to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, although in the bay where I live the races took place much earlier so for me it was just an extra day at home.

Lucky Tinker turned out to be a girl!
A couple of dogs left the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, one of them being older girl Tinker (who for some reason had been thought to be a boy previously), and the other larger-than-usual poodle Louis.  This was the second time Louis had gone to a foster/trial home, and the reason for him being returned from the first one was very sad.  It was because he loved the children so much that he got over-excited to see them when they came back from school and couldn't control his jumping and enthusiasm, to the point where it was just too much.  So this time the children are that little bit older and bigger so Louis can love them as much as he wants.
Louis is crazy about children

Tucker the golden retriever went off to his new home following his vet visit and license update, but otherwise it's been very slow at our main Tai Po Homing Centre and we really need to get more dogs into homes.  There's no shortage of enquiries for young purebreeds, but as we are neither a breeder nor a pet shop, we don't have a supply of such puppies.

There was good news for another Stanley Barracks puppy who had met a potential adopter at his foster home, as I got an email confirming that they would like to adopt Bruno.  Now there is just Bonzo left from that litter, with Bertram who came later and new boy Rufus.  If they aren't actual brothers they are certainly cousins.

Bonzo doesn't have the whiskers either
