Fri 19th May: A quiet Friday

The van (driver) wasn't available today so I used the time to run some errands, such as buying a dryer and other bits and pieces, before going to say hello to the Ap Lei Chau dogs.  It's quite amazing how they all get along despite having come from different backgrounds and being a variety of size and age. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised knowing how my one and only small dog, Murphy, lives among so many big dogs and is accepted as just one of the family.  He has friends that he plays with and he sleeps alongside the others, and nobody seems to notice he's so much smaller.

The newest breeder dogs plus some others
One of the new breeder dogs, poodle Toffee, went off to a foster home today but not before volunteer Harryn had taken photos of them all in the nearby Ap Lei Chau dog park. We have so many lovely little guests, and while we are always hoping that they will soon find their forever families at least I can say that they are already far better off than they were as breeder dogs.  They don't live in cages standing on wire, they are given treatment for their painful ear infections and itchy skin, they go for walks to the dog park at least twice a day and they will never again be forced to mate and produce puppies.

We also have several puppies at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, all of whom were babies when they first arrived (with tick fever) and are now healthy and very happy five month-olds.  They are all at the smaller end of the standard size range for mixed breeds which is why they are still at the Centre, but it's really time that they found their own homes.  Sisters Ruth, Dolly and Nova, along with black One, will all be at Whiskers N Paws on Sunday afternoon if you would like to meet them, or of course you can go to the Homing Centre any other day, 10am to 6pm.
