Mon 8th May: Calling for small dog fosters!

Tom is just one of the older puppies whose profiles need to be added to the website
Mondays are always busy as I have to go through all of the Sunday Whiskers N Paws photos and try to caption them, as well as downloading the adoptions and any other shots I think I will need.  We don't post individual puppy information on the website because they grow and change so quickly that it would be an impossible task to keep updating. On top of that there are just so many, so we have to rely on the Hong Kong Dog Rescue (HKDR) Facebook albums to show the latest "collection".   However once the puppies reach a certain age, around five months, then it's time to include them on the website profiles and that means choosing the best photo and saying a few words about them. Then I send the information to Kathy in the office for her to add them to the many others that are under the "Dogs" section of the website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (in case you weren't sure yet).

We have so many poms now
Once that is done then it's time for my regular morning walk before setting off for (usually) AFCD and then Acorn.  Today I had some new recruits, small dogs that had to go for license checking and rabies vaccinations if necessary, and while at the Animal Management Centre in Pokfulam of course I always check who's new and which dogs are ready to leave. I always hope it's been a slow weekend for the dog catchers or people surrendering their pets, but more often than not there are new faces staring back at me and wondering what's happened.  In fact the kennels are pretty full right now, especially as there's a backlog due to the vet being on holiday and all dogs needing to be approved for re-homing.
One of the Stanley Barracks puppies at AFCD looks exactly like Bruno

I'd been hoping I could take the two Stanley Barracks puppies out. as well as a few small dogs who've been kicking their heels for a while, but they are still waiting to be seen and their releases approved. It's frustrating for me, but harder for the dogs and puppies themselves.
Magnet left Ap Lei Chau today

Anyway, there's certainly no shortage of small or large dogs at our Homing Centres, and puppies at both of course.  In fact there has been a huge influx of little dogs including the four new ones from Sunday (poms) and an additional four today (chihuahuas and another pom).  We urgently need homes or fosters to make space for new dogs due to come in, as well as accommodating those already with us.  It doesn't help that we are keeping puppies at the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre either, because although relatively small sized in terms of them being mixed breeds, compared to the tiny poms and chihuahuas they are huge, and puppies do love pulling the poms' fluffy coats as a game. It may be funny from the puppies' point of view, but less so for the little dogs.  At least one puppy left Ap Lei Chau today as Magnet was chosen to become a forever dog.
Ruth, Dolly and Nova are small in terms of mixed breed, but large from a pom's point of view
