Sun 10th Jan: The in-and-out dogs

It does happen that in-demand dogs come to us out of the blue, and then it's a question of right place and time as to who gets to adopt them.  In this case it was a young corgi who turned up and was in a new home almost immediately, and before I had even come up with a name for him.

As it happens the corgi came from the same home as the young standard poodle I mentioned in a previous post, and while originally we were subsequently told that the poodle had gone to another home it seems that's not the case and she will be with us and available for adoption soon.  If you're not already aware standard poodles are fairly large dogs, super-smart and energetic, and with the kind of coat that so many people with allergies ask for.   If you're interested in hearing when this dog arrives, with a genuine view to adoption of course, please complete the questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/

It's unfair that the breeds are always the popular dogs but being homeless affects all animals whatever label they have, and if we can get them into new homes fast then that's good.

What's also unfair in reverse is that it's the purebred dogs who suffer in the pet trade, the breeders and pet shops pumping out puppies with no regard to the health, comfort and welfare of the parent dogs, mostly the females but males too.  The recent arrivals at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre aren't actually from either of these places, but they've come to us due to their old age and lack of usefulness.  They're all very sweet dogs who really deserve to have a proper life and home in their remaining years, so please consider giving them this chance.  They all have names now which makes it's easier to identify them.
