Fri 8th Jan: New dogs coming in all the time

I'm dreading having to take a sampan during this very cold weather and luckily haven't needed to go over to Ap Lei Chau, but I would like to meet the new recruits that Iris picked up in the evening (and on her day off).  I did mention them yesterday, and the fact that they might be coming, but as of late today they really are at our Homing Centre but still needing to be assessed for age and health condition, as well as being licensed.  I don't think any of them are very young but there are four poodles, two pomeranians, a bichon and a shih tzu (photo), and as I anticipate a lot of interest in adopting these dogs I will just say now that we will choose the homes that we feel can offer the best life, as the previous years haven't been pleasant for any of them.  Anyone who is interested and hasn't yet completed the adoption questionnaire can do so at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/

Please don't ask for details as we won't have any answers until the dogs have been to see a vet and we can at least estimate and age, as well as condition.

Dogs seem to be arriving every day recently, mostly larger mixed breeds coming to Tai Po, and we have two more due to appear any day.  Also with this group there MAY be a standard poodle, female and quite young, but as always we can never be sure until the dogs are physically with us.

It's easy for dogs to get "lost" after a while at Tai Po, and I don't mean that they wander off and can't be found rather that while there's an initial flurry of interest for new arrivals, if it doesn't lead to a quick adoption at the time then the dog gets pushed down the line.  The chow chow now called Leo is a good example, as we had several initial enquiries but that has tapered off to nothing.  Leo's a good boy, friendly to both people and other dogs, and he's lucky that his thick coat means this weather suits him perfectly.

Also very happy with the cold, Alaskan Malamute Toffee has had a lot of interest but unfortunately none that would suit such a giant of a dog.  Dogs like Toffee really need good space, as well as 24-hour air conditioning in the summer months.
