Even if it's raining volunteers can play with the puppies |
However it's not a one-off thing to do, so offers to help out on specific dates only and for short periods doesn't really work, especially as every new volunteer needs to go through a short training session to understand how things operate.
Volunteers also need to be at least eighteen years old, so applications from students will be turned down (with apologies as we know there are many who are very keen to do something to help).
What we really need are weekday volunteers, even if it's just to play with the puppies on rainy days, and anyone who has time to come Monday to Friday will be given priority. Remember to specify which Homing Centre you are able to volunteer at if this is you, because the two places are very different in size and the number of dogs. You can find all the information and volunteering application form on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com, so please take a look there as a first step.
Puppy fostering is a form of volunteering too, and this is certainly something that under-18s can do, as long as parents agree of course. We provide everything that's needed, so all fosters have to do is look after the puppy and come to Whiskers N Paws on Sundays. Please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com for information about our fostering programme.
In fact we urgently need puppy fosters right now as we have just heard that there are more young puppies at AFCD Sheung Shui, and we really don't have space for them at the Homing Centre. They are very cute and we want to take them out as soon as possible, but we need somewhere for them to go if you can provide the temporary space.
Moses is still waiting for a home - how come? |
To us the breed is irrelevant as we know our dogs and how amazing the mixed breeds are, but we have to accept that the named breeds will always be more popular, even if that's slowly changing. Please come to our Tai Po Homing Centre any day and let us show you what we mean.
