Weds 1st May: Double puppy afternoons coming up

Timmy left the Homing Centre today to start his new life
We started the month by saying goodbye to two of our lovely little Ap Lei Chau dogs, the first one being Timmy the terrier, a gorgeous boy who had been picked up as a stray and without any identifying microchip.  Now he has had everything done, including desexing, so he is a fully-fledged and legal graduate of HKDR.

Sweet Dido can put the past behind her now
The same could be said of the second little dog, poodle Dido who came as one of a group from the Breeder from Hell.  Like all of the others from that place, Dido had hardly any hair because of the scabies mites in the skin that caused terrible itching and that took some time to resolve. With Dido's adoption only Dana is left from the original five that arrived together, and she is also a very sweet girl.   We haven't heard anything for some time from the contact person who was taking the dogs from this particular illegal breeder, and while it could mean that he has no dogs it's still worrying that there could be more living in inhumane conditions.
Now only Dana is left waiting for a home

I have been trying to think up names for the new puppy arrivals, but there have been so many that I can't keep up.  It's easy to fall back on the tried and tested choices but I like to be original if I can.  I have until Saturday to come up with the names because it's puppy afternoon at Concordia Pet Care in Happy Valley, followed of course by Whiskers N Paws on Sunday.
Meet the puppies in Happy Valley on Saturday

With the three-month Public Consultation period for the proposed changes to the Animal Welfare Laws, there are many cases that would become illegal if and when the new laws are intoduced.  Today I got a surrender request for an eleven year-old husky who has never been licensed, vaccinated, been on any heartworm prevention or ever seen a vet.  When I looked at the photo it was heartbreaking, as the poor old dog was on a roof and attached to a wooden dog house by a length of rope.  I couldn't contain my anger at the person who was asking to surrender the dog and who had done nothing for the poor animal in its entire life.  This is the obvious type of situation that needs to be cause for prosecution for animal cruelty but currently isn't, and if you haven't already done so please send your own comments https://www.pets.gov.hk/english/animal_health_and_welfare/Proposals_to_Enhance_Animal_Welfare.html.
This is not a life, and it will hopefully become illegal
