Thurs 2nd May: Kittens growing up

Cat's little Kittens as babies
We have been keen to see how the Kitten Pups have grown, especially as their mother Cat has at last completed her treatment for TVT (Transmissable Venereal Tumour), weekly injections of a chemotherapy-type drug.  Yes, dogs get sexually transmitted diseases too and they are very unpleasant, especially as during the course of the treatment we had to keep Cat separated from other dogs.  I suppose it gave her an opportunity to really settle and relax, but at the same she's a young dog who needs to interact and play.  She's a very small mixed breed, and although she's a little bit shy she's also a very sweet girl so I hope her chance of a home will come soon.
You can't tell how small Cat is from this photo

Going back to the "Kittens", here are two of them as doglets now, and looking very much like their mother Cat.  It's one of the things I love about mixed breeds, seeing how they grow and end up.  I've seen some amazing adults emerge from little puppy bodies, as extras like whiskers, feathers and big fluffy tails don't emerge until the end.
Can you guess which Kittens these are from the baby photo?

Driver Ming was off today so Friday will be busy trying to pack everything into one afternoon.  I have the Stanley Barracks doglets to pick up from AFCD Pokfulam, and I can tell you these are gorgeous older puppies, just as all of the Stanley Barracks dogs have been in the past.  Two of this current group are from the same family as adults Ivory and Tusk, both of whom are still waiting for homes despite being such sweet dogs, while the other three are more like German shepherds.  I haven't seen this "style" from Stanley Barracks before, but there must be a mother somewhere in the area that needs to be caught and desexed.

We also have two new dogs coming from AFCD Sheung Shui, a poodle and another doglet we are told is a beagle cross, although that may be a random guess as it's hard to tell from the photo we were sent.  We will see.

More than ever we need homes, fosters or even better forever families for our lovely dogs and puppies.  You can meet the puppies and small dogs any day at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre,  with the larger adults and older puppies staying at the big Tai Po Homing Centre.  We never have a day off, not even during the worst typhoons, so you can come any day of the year between 10am and 6pm.  For fostering enquiries please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com, and if you are looking to adopt please complete the Adoption Questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt).

This Saturday the puppies will be at Concordia Pet Care in Happy Valley, 2pm to 5pm, and again on Sunday at Whiskers N Paws.
