Tiggy is now officially 3 years old |
I had to take little pug Tiggy to AFCD for licensing, where I registered her as being three years old, and then on to Acorn where she had a full check up. The poor girl has dry eye, entropian (turned-in eyelids) and bad knees, as well as the inevitable bald elephant-skin patches where she has been rubbing against the cage sides in her previous existence as a breeder dog. I can't call it a life, but despite that horrible time Tiggy is adorable and such a sweet girl. Once she's all fixed up she'll be perfect, but we do need a foster home for her after surgery on Tuesday. If you can help please contact Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com.

Big Ears and Noddy |
The German shepherd-cross pups we got at the same time as Tiggy are suffering the effects of severe malnutrition and heavy (intestinal) worm burden, so we're not sure whether their anaemia is due to that or tick fever. We're treating for everything just in case, and luckily found a food that they will eat. Starvation can result in anorexia, and Noddy in particular wouldn't accept anything that was offered so it's a huge relief that he ate this particular food that Acorn suggested. Our regular volunteer Rose has taken in the pups for fostering so we will have daily updates on their health situation.

The Jack Ruusell puppy has just be desexed |
I mentioned before that we could be getting a six month-old rough-coated Jack Russell puppy girl , but the current owners were torn about giving her up. Now they have confirmed that as much as it breaks their heart they know the puppy needs a more suitable home than they can provide so we're now in a position to to post her photo and accept offers from potential adopters. As always we know there will be many wanting this gorgeous puppy so we will choose the home we feel can give her exactly what she needs. If you are interested please complete the Adoption Questionnaire on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt) as a first step, and please note we're not looking for a foster home only an immediate confirmed adoption. Jack Russells may be small in size but they need good exercise with lots of play and socialisation.
Tuesday is going to be a big day for the older puppies currently staying at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre as they are due to move up to Tai Po. It's as tough for us as it is for them initially, but it's the best chance they have of being seen and chosen for adoption, as well as giving them more space than they have at the small Homing Centre. We have known them since they arrived as baby pups and I have watched them grow at every Sunday adoption afternoon at Whiskers N Paws. Now it's time for them to take the next step, and I hope with all my heart it leads to their forever homes before too long.
