Sat 18th May: Some in, some out

Dudley and Jenny never miss an opportunity to play
It was another busy day at both Homing Centres as well as a group of puppies attending  Puppy Adoption Day 18 May 2019 — at 康迪亞獸醫 Concordia Pet Care - Happy Valley with thanks to Yaping Liu for the photos.  It's not an easy venue for getting shots of puppies playing and running around, so we are especially appreciative.   Although there were no immediate adoptions it was a happy day for our long-term volunteer Becky who has been taking care of Alaskan malamute Zara since last year, and during two failed adoption attempts.   Zara finally has a new forever home, and while it will be hard for Becky (and husband Ted) to say goodbye the other five dogs in their home will be pleased.

Dazzle was chosen even with heartworm
Poodle Dazzle was the lucky dog at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre today, and we're especially happy and grateful  to his adopter as Dazzle has heartworm and still needs to have the treatment.

Sweet little pug Tiggy
Throughout the day I was in contact with Catherine's Puppies regarding some new puppies that were arriving, as well as one pug.  These operations require a lot of coordination because there is no direct contact with the source, so it's a matter of waiting until the dogs and puppies are delivered to Sai Kung and then driven by another volunteer, Kaz, to Ap Lei Chau.  The puppies and pug arrived very late in the afternoon and I have a feeling they'll be leaving with their new families very quickly.  The puppies are German shepherd crosses, with one having the big ears of the breed and the other not.  I'm calling them Noddy and Big Ears to make the distinction clear, even though there are probably not too many people who know who Noddy and Big Ears are.

The sharpei puppies also arrived today, and while the boy has already been promised a home the girl is still available.  Luckily the adopter of the boy puppy has offered to foster his sister, but if you are interested in adopting her please complete the Adoption Questionnaire on our website.

I was so happy to get a message from Tai Po telling me that the chocolate labrador family of mother, father and son had all been taken for fostering together, and I understand a day of swimming was planned.  Labradors love to swim so I can imagine everyne had a great time.

It was a day for hard physical work at Tai Po as we received another large donation of dog and cat food which needed to be moved under cover.   We are sharing a good portion of this food with the poor shelters, the ones that struggle to feed their dogs, as well as the volunteers who take care of the street cats.  The first donation batch has already been assigned and collected, and today's will be gone by Sunday.  We're very grateful to have been given such a wonderful donation, and being able to help so many other animals in need is rewarding too.

We're all set for Whiskers N Paws on Sunday, and as always are hoping for good weather and happy adoption news to share on Monday.  We have so many really amazing puppies it's hard to believe they're still waiting for homes.  Come and meet them and see for yourself.
