Tues 8th Aug: Patching up the little dogs

The new small dogs are being sent to Acorn a few at a time to be patched up, all of them ex-breeder escapees although some came directly from the breeder and others via AFCD.  There is always a reason why these dogs are thrown away, and it has to be because they are no longer capable of producing puppies for one reason or another.  There is no kindness behind their lucky release, only the fact they can no longer make money.

Anna is small and very sweet
Anna the beagle is a very sweet girl and one of those that came to us via AFCD.  We knew she had a large hole in her abdominal wall, but when she was opened up for desexing she was a complete mess inside.  I still don't know if the breeders use qualified vets for their surgery or if they do it themselves, but the internal scarring had resulted in everything inside being fused together like one big mass. No wonder Anna couldn't have more litters, and lucky for her that she ended up in the hands of a skilled vet who could carefully separate all the bits and pieces.  She should be fine after she's recovered from this last one surgery, and then she can begin a real life, free from ill health and suffering.

Frankie has a bad heart
"Fake" bichon Frankie, another ex-AFCD breeder dog, has a Grade 4 heart murmur, and further tests today showed his heart is in very bad shape.  At least he's in a foster home so we don't have to worry about him being stressed at the Homing Centre, but whichever puppies he fathered will probably have inherited his genetic weakness.

At least there was good news today, being that doglet Sesame has finally found an adopter, and only just in time. We've been trying pretty hard to place him before he became homeless, but that's not to say he isn't a really lovely boy who will make his new family very happy.  He deserves this break, and once again we're incredibly grateful to the two foster homes who looked after him since the time he was a baby pup and helped him grow into such a lovely, well-rounded character.
Cameron, Tanner and Paris

Being in homes makes such a difference, and I would love to find fosters for the remaining Lamma puppies, all of whom are really amazing but they need to learn the basics of walking on a leash and how to live in a family home.   I have too many dogs to take care of to be able to offer puppies this sort of training and the best I can do is to let them have fun on the beach, which they love of course.  Lookalike brothers Cameron and Tanner are amazing pups, as is Troy (who is going to foster this weekend, hooray) and Paris, the only (and large) girl.  Little Alfie is a very happy and cheeky boy who is also extremely loving and affectionate.  Adoption would be even better of course!
Alfie is a very happy and active smaller-sized puppy
